The Soyuz spacecraft carrying the trio touched down on the steppes of Kazakhstan at 1631 (1231 GMT).

Mr Simonyi, a Hungarian-born US software engineer, paid $25m (£12.7m) for his 10-day stay on the ISS.

The 58-year-old is the fifth person to pay for a trip into space.

On his two-day journey to the ISS Mr Simonyi travelled with two replacement crew for the space station.

6g of salt is about a teaspoonful
Eating less salt can cut cardiovascular disease risk by a quarter and fatal heart disease by a fifth, work shows.

The ideal daily intake of salt is no more than six grams and ministers want everyone to achieve this by 2010.

Experts already know that too much salt can raise blood pressure and high blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Chinese growth heating up economy
Chinese port
Beijing has tried to restrict bank lending to cool the economy
China's economy has grown by an annual rate of 11.1% in the first three months of 2007, official figures show, fanning fears it is starting to overheat.

First quarter growth topped forecasts and was significantly up on the 10.4% rate in the final three months of 2006.

Separate figures showed annual inflation rose to 3.3% in March.

China's main share index closed 4.5% lower amid concerns interest rates will have to rise to slow inflation because earlier measures have largely failed.

Jimmy Wales founded the free online resource in 2001
Nearly 2,000 Wikipedia articles will be sold on compact disc to give people without a net connection access to highlights of the popular web resource.

The Wikipedia Version 0.5 CD collection includes topics such as geography, arts, literature, science and history.

The articles were selected by software that rated their quality and importance to the Wikipedia community.

Martin Walker, a senior academic from the US also helped set the selection criteria for the $13.99 (£7) disc.

"We wanted to cover the major topics, while also including a selection of articles considered to be the very best of Wikipedia," said Professor Walker, of the State University of New York, Potsdam.

"These featured articles aim to be well written and comprehensive, and also free from errors, bias, vandalism and marketing."

Kilimanjaro: Ice fields at the equator are a huge tourist draw

A fresh assessment suggests the famous ice fields on Africa's tallest mountain will be around for decades yet.

Recent concerns that climate warming would rob Mount Kilimanjaro of all its glaciers within 20 years are overly pessimistic, say Austrian scientists.

US urges N Korea to shut reactor
Satellite view of North Korean nuclear reactor at Yongbyon - file photo 2002
North Korea has missed a deadline to shut down its main reactor
The US has urged North Korea to fulfil its pledge to shut down the Yongbyon nuclear reactor, as Pyongyang missed a key deadline for closing the plant.

North Korea should "immediately" invite nuclear experts to begin sealing the facility, the US state department said.

But the US said it remained committed to the landmark 13 February agreement.

Under the deal, North Korea agreed to close Yongbyon within 60 days in return for aid. But a row over funds frozen in Macau has stalled progress on the deal.

US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said it was time for North Korea "to make its move so that all of us can move forward".

In Beijing, US nuclear negotiator Christopher Hill said that North Korea's failure to meet the 14 April deadline was cause for concern.

But he said that Chinese officials had urged the US to show patience and to wait "a couple more days" for Pyongyang to comply.

"They said the lines of communication were open... if it is going to get resolved it certainly should be able to get resolved very soon," he said.

Mr Castro has not been seen in public since surgery in July
Cuban leader Fidel Castro is "almost totally recovered" from intestinal surgery last year, his ally Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said.

The 80-year-old Cuban president had resumed a good part of his duties, Mr Chavez told journalists in Caracas.

Mr Castro has not been seen in public since July 2006, when he handed power to his brother Raul.

His continued absence from politics has fuelled speculation about the seriousness of his condition.

Mr Castro's health is treated as a state secret in Cuba, but Mr Chavez has offered a number of updates on his ally in recent months.

4月15日リンカーン大統領死亡

Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809April 15, 1865) was the 16th President of the United States (March 4, 1861April 15, 1865). As an outspoken opponent of the expansion of slavery and a political leader in the western states, he won the Republican Party nomination in 1860 and was elected president later that year.

Lincoln helped preserve the United States by leading the defeat of the secessionist Confederacy in the American Civil War. He introduced measures that resulted in the abolition of slavery, issuing his Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and promoting the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution in 1865.

Lincoln's leadership qualities were evident in his close supervision of the victorious war effort, especially his successful selection of Ulysses S. Grant and other top generals. Historians conclude he brilliantly handled the factions of the Republican Party by bringing the leaders into his cabinet and forcing them to cooperate. In crisis management, he defused a war scare with Britain (1861), he outmaneuvered the Confederacy and took control of the border slave states in 1861-62, and he managed his own landslide reelection in the 1864 presidential election.

The atmosphere is evaporating under the heat from its star
Water has been detected for the first time in the atmosphere of a planet outside our Solar System.

The planet, known as HD 209458b, is a Jupiter-like gas giant located 150 light-years from Earth in the constellation Pegasus.

Scientists will publish the findings in the Astrophysical Journal.

However, another research team reported in February that they were unable to find evidence of water in this planet's atmosphere.

日中首相会談 BBC
Japan and China aim to thaw ties
Mr Wen arrived in Tokyo amid pouring rain
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has met his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, at the start of a summit hailed as a sign of improved relations.
The two men issued a joint statement promising to look frankly at their historical disputes, and signed accords on energy and the environment.
"Our talks will be a big step toward building strategically and mutually beneficial relations," Mr Abe said.
Mr Wen is the first Chinese prime minister to visit Japan in seven years.
The meeting followed a trip by Mr Abe to China in October - the first sign of a thaw in ongoing tensions between the two countries.
The Chinese leadership refused to talk to former Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi because he insisted on visiting the Yasukuni shrine where Japan's war dead are honoured.
Japan's neighbours believe the shrine glorifies the country's wartime brutality.
Since Mr Koizumi was replaced by Mr Abe, there has been a noticeable change in attitude.
Mr Wen has only just arrived in Japan, but already the two sides are talking warmly of improved relations.
Responding to reports that Mr Wen considered this an "ice-melting" trip, a Japanese government spokesperson said: "We don't think there is any 'ice' left."

Weblogs 'need content warnings'
Tim O'Reilly
The code of conduct was drawn up by Tim O'Reilly
Readers should be warned when they are reading blogs that may contain "crude language", a draft blogging code of conduct has suggested.

The code was drawn up by web pioneer Tim O'Reilly following published threats and perceived harassment to US developer Kathy Sierra on blogs.

The code begins: "We celebrate the blogosphere because it embraces frank and open conversation."

The draft says people should not be allowed to leave anonymous comments.

Blogs which are open and uncensored should post an "anything goes" logo to the site to warn readers, the code suggests.

Readers of these blogs would be warned: "We are not responsible for the comments of any poster, and when discussions get heated, crude language, insults and other "off colour" comments may be encountered. Participate in this site at your own risk."

The draft will now be assessed and amended by bloggers around the world.

The code states: "We are committed to the 'Civility Enforced' standard: we will not post unacceptable content, and we'll delete comments that contain it."

The draft defines unacceptable content as anything included or linked to that is being used to "abuse, harass, stalk, or threaten others".
